| Characterization of mechanical and environmental properties of double-clad fibers |

(including development of full long term qualification plan for double-clad fibers)
Double-clad optical fibers used in fiber lasers have to be very reliable under demanding conditions. In this work, a set of tests is implemented to characterize the mechanical strength and the ability to withstand varying environmental conditions of double-clad fibers.
Measurement methods are developed to test dynamic breaking strength, two-point bending strength, coating properties and temperature-handling capability. Uncertainty analyses are performed for all measurements.
In addition a full-fledged qualification plan for double-clad fibers will be developed, in which the above measurements are included.
